The annual meeting of the Georgia Dugout Club took place from Thursday January 20 – Saturday January 22nd. The meeting concluded in its customary fashion with it’s Hall of Fame inductees and 2010 Coach of the year awards. This season, Pope High School was fortunate to have Coach Alan Savransky awarded one of the 2010 assistant coach of the year awards.
The assistant coach of the year award is given to a coach who dedicates him or herself above and beyond the normal demands and scope of the normal coaching expectations. Assistant coaches of the year are renowned for their self-sacrifice and dedication to the betterment of the players in their program.
The assistant coach of the year award is the highest
honor an assistant softball coach in the state of
Georgia can be awarded. The process for being awarded
this prestigious honor is a recommendation from the head
coach of the team. Once nominated, all nominees are
reviewed by a selection committee. The selection
committee compares all nominees and selects those that
they feel are most deserving for the 2010 season.
In 2010, Coach Savransky assisted Pope to it’s 2nd ever
state playoff appearance in Pope history. It is not
coincidental that the only two times Pope has ever been
to the state playoffs are the only two times Coach
Savransky has been on the softball coaching staff with
the other state playoff appearance being in 2006. Coach
Savransky also helped Pope to a region record 10 wins
and a school record 19 victories. Coach Savransky also
assisted in tallying Pope’s first state playoff victory
ever when Pope defeated Creekview in the 2nd game of the
best of three series in October.
These impressive achievements coupled with the long
hours spent working with the players of the program and
the sacrifices of missing his daughter’s softball games
at rival Walton High make Coach Savransky a more than
deserving recipient.
Pope High School is proud of Coach Savransky and would
like to thank him for his hard work and dedication put
forth this season. Pope fastpitch is lucky to have a
coach of Coach Savransky’s caliber and high character.
