The Pope fastpitch team is proud to announce that class of 1999 alumni Tamara Boggs has been inducted into the Pope High School athletic hall of fame on September 2nd, 2011. Tamara was inducted with two other members, fellow classmate Ryan Sawyer, class of 1999 (football and baseball / University of Virginia) and T.J. Yates, class of 2006 (football and basketball / University of North Carolina). The 2011 class marks the 5th of the Pope High Hall of Fame and the Hall now stands at 20 members with Tamara being the lone representative from Fastpitch Softball in the hall.

The ceremony was held on the campus of Pope High School and began in the brand new culinary arts building at 5:30 pm where dinner was served and honorees were given an opportunity to give induction speeches. After the speeches, the ceremony moved to the football stadium where the three honorees were introduced and given their hall of fame rings before the 7:30 PM kickoff of the football game against Kennesaw Mountain.

Tamara was greeted with loud applause from the capacity crowd as the PA announcer listed off her fine credentials. Arguably, Tamara is the greatest and most acclaimed fastpitch player ever to play at Alan C. Pope High and her prep exploits allowed her to take her game to the collegiate level where Tamara starred at Emory University.

Some of the many accolades mentioned that Tamara has achieved at Emory are as follows:
  • 1st career slugging %
  • 1st career triples
  • 2nd career batting average
  • 2nd career total bases
  • 3rd career hits
  • 3rd career OBP
  • 4th career RBI’s
  • 5th career runs scored
Tamara was also selected as the Emory University female athlete of the year in 2004 which is an award given for both stellar athletic play as well as classroom excellence and off the field community involvement. Tamara was a two time All-American at Emory University during her sophomore and senior season of 2001 and 2003 respectively.

At the festivities Tamara was joined by 5 special guests, mother Lavada, father George, brother Bryce, long time friend Susan Lawson, and special guest Penny Siqueiros, Tamara’s College coach at Emory University.
